These are very comfortable shoes and well-made.If you like a light-weight shoe, these will suit you. I rated them as a 4 only because I like the Pace Glove better. The Pace really hugs the foot; these are slightly more rigid. The Pace feels like a glove on the foot; these do not as much. But I prefer these to a regular tennis shoe. I can wear these with socks. If I could wear a sock with the Pace, I would wear them year-round; the mesh is just too cold for winter wear.

I purchased these as my "winter" barefoot shoes.I currently own two pairs of Merrell Pace Glove's and the Lithe Glove doesn't even compare in comfort.They are stiff and don't flex like the Pace Glove.I was hoping I could wear these thru the winter months.Because of the Pace Glove's mesh breathability, they are not suited for winter wear.I ended up returning these and purchasing my second pair of Pace Gloves.

TRAIL VS SONIC GLOVE, February 2, 2012 - By  TEP- every time I've attempted to run in the Sonics for more than a few miles without socks.Its only after 2 months of trying to beat them into submission that they've become more wearable: not acceptable for any sort of shoe in my opinion-especially for distance runs.Performance:I wanted a shoe that kept more moisture and debris out, while retaining some warmth and dryness for the cooler conditions. I've learned, however, that on longer runs, my feet sweat so they're wet anyways.The mesh on the Trails helps keep that moisture evaporating.As for heat: my feet get hot on longer runs, so the extra material may not be that important unless its extremely cold.As for running through puddles and rain: its a low top shoe, water is going to get in anyways and once again, the mesh forefoot on the Trails just pushes it back out or allows it to evaporate.Additionally, the extra rigidity of the Sonic glove was an unwelcome addition.I'm pretty sure it reduces the ability to move your foot naturally and it definitely caused more rubbing until it broke down with wear and tear.Final thoughts:Now that I've broken it in, I like the Sonic glove and use it for more severe conditions; however, when I do burn through these, I'm going back to the Trail Gloves.

Bought these to help me make the transition to a minimalist running style like so many others these days. I needed something that would allow the muscles and tendons of my foot to continue to work more as designed, but that would be suitable for casual dress. This positively fit the bill.I bought the brown and they look excellent with a pair of khakis, cargos or blue jeans. They avoid the inevitable stares of the toe-shoes and meet most business-casual dress codes. I wear them for business travel and for light & fast trail hikes.The sole is a tough Vibram wedge that narrows through the mid-foot, requiring your arches and their supporting muscles to work. The near zero-drop design will also give your calves/Achilles a workout if you're used to a cushioned sole, so be forewarned.The leather is tough but supple and the lace eyelet placement allows you to tighten things up so it fits like a glove, hence its name.After a good month or two of wearing these for my primary daytime shoe, both in town and on the trails, I have to say I'm pleased. They make the transition seamless between work and recreation.I have to say, I think the mesh variations would be better if you're looking primarily for a running shoe, but these have done well enough on a few short trail runs.Sizing was true for a 9.5 and comfortable enough for someone who requires a wide toe-box.

They are more versatile and comfortable.Update July 2011. I am not really a fan of these shoes. They are the last ones I go for. I have been much happier with the Pace glove tennis shoe style. I can't get over my toe nails catching on the seam.

As always, I got incredibly speedy delivery from Amazon of the item and was excited to try on these shoes. They were a perfect fit and comfortable right out of the box with NO socks on either. I wore them continuously from that point on, although I did purchase a lightweight shoe insert made to help with arch support. That made a nice difference.The reason for my 4 star rating is this: by accidence I got an oil stain on the light blue fabric. I thought alright they are fabric and was told they could be washed so I immediately rubbed the stain with a pre-wash and then rubbed it with detergent. That didn't work so I used a stain-out pen. After repeated washing the result was the black edging had bled into the blue fabric and now I have a worse stain which prohibits me from wearing them for good. My advice is to spray with a fabric protector before using as the shoes are definitely made of fabric and light blue does show dirt.

Step 1: Read "Born to Run"Step 2: Begin the journey to reclaim your genetic rights to a barefoot existence.I spotted these shoes on one of the many barefoot running blogs and websites and couldn't wait to get a hold of them. I have slowly transitioned to barefoot running like so many thousands of others who were inspired by "Born to Run," and while I'm very far from becoming an shoeless Ultra Marathoner, I am a dedicated convert. Since retraining my feet and lower legs in my Vibram Five Fingers, the rest of the expensive outdoorsy cushioned shoes in my closet just feel terrible. My hope for these Merrell Pace Gloves is to have a shoe to wear when I'm not running that complements all of the benefit I have received from running in Vibram Five Fingers. Out of the box, these shoes are extremely light weight with the look and feel of a high quality Merrell product and I'm very happy with the look of the Chili Pepper color. I can definitely wear these as a casual shoe with a nicer outfit and feel great about the style. In slipping them on, the soles are very flexible and followed the point and flex of my foot and there are minimal seams on the inside. At first, they seemed long in the toes, which didn't make sense because I always wear a 7 1/2 in Merrells, but this is obviously on purpose. The width of the ball of my foot perfectly fit into the contours of the sole and the extra length allowed for spread of my toes within my stide -- this is very important and I am actually quite impressed with how well this was accomplished. I walked around the house and hopped on the treadmill for a few minutes and the shoes successfully encourange me to support my weight through the ball of my foot with a forefoot/midfoot strike. They were very comfortable while running and my toes still had room to spread without constriction. So far, these seem like an outstanding shoe!

I am trying to work on my posture and balance and continue my yoga practice advancement, so I was very interested in the barefoot shoe. I just got them and I have to say they are awesome. They fit like a glove. I think maybe I got really lucky with sizing. I got them in chili pepper and they are the cutest little low profile shoes.I will update as I start running/wogging in them.Word of caution. I have very narrow feet and these hug like crazy. I would think if you have wide feet, these shoes would literally rub you the wrong way.So far out of the box.... love them!Update 6/28/2011: I still love these shoes. I would rather wear them instead on my slippers. A couple things I noticed. The color bleeds (chili pepper) the first sign of sweat i had pink socks. Second, if my feet swell even a little, they get uncomfortable. Otherwise, I love these shoes and get many compliments on them.

Yeah, they're that good....., February 19, 2011 - By  TEP- , but I don't think it adds any advantages to running that the Trail Glove doesn't, aside from being goofy looking, getting dandelions caught between your toes, stubbing your toes and the ability to grab things with your toes to impress your friends. I think the Trail glove is more protective and more comfortable than the KSO Treks and you don't have to train your toes to fit into individual pockets. If you like the Five Fingers, that's fine, I ran with them for a while and liked them a lot, until I tried these bad boys.As far as durability and long term wear goes, I'd refer you to other running blogs of those who've test driven the Merrel Trail gloves before they were released to people like me.Hope this helps.

I've been wanting to try out one of the "barefoot'" shoes since I read reviews of the Vibrum Five Fingers.I tried them on at two stores and after fifteen minutesof trying I could never get them on my feet.My fat toes just would not go into the spaces they were supposed to fit into, so I was excited to read about these.I have wide feet so i normally wear anything between a size 11 and 12, depending on brand and if they come in a wide size.Wasn't sure about these, so I split the difference and ordered a 11.5.They fit perfectly!First impression was that they felt a littlefunny with the narrow sole and heal,but then a went for a run in them and I was in love.They force you to learn to run off your forefoot rather that your heel.It takes a few runs to get the knack of it, but you'll see the benefits.Feet and legs felt much better and with my improved stride I have began cutting minutes off my training runs with no increase in effort.These shoes weigh almost nothing and fit like a second skin, so that's part of it I guess.They have plenty of room in the toe box.I would recommend these to anybody looking to improve their running.I just ordered a pare of the True Gloves.Not sure of the difference, except they look like the sole tread is more suited to road running instead to trails, so I looking forward the comparing the two.For people who are complaining about the narrow sole and low heal, these are running shoes, not walking shoes.I would not recommend them for someone looking for walking around shoes.UPDATE:For those who might be interested, I just received a pair of the Merrell True Gloves.The soles of the True Glove and the Trail appear to be the same.The main difference is the Trail Glove has the mesh upper while the True Glove has a softer upper.For those who have commented of abrasions from the Trail Gloves mesh upper, the True Glove may be a better choice, however, it looks like the Trail Glove "breaths" better.Both are great running shoes and weigh almost nothing.
